On December 6, 2023, The University of World Economy and Diplomacy is hosting the national scientific and practical conference entitled “Exporting from Uzbekistan to the European Union Market: Problems, Opportunities and Prospects”.

The foreign trade relations of Uzbekistan and the European Union have been developing steadily for the last years. In 2021, the Euroepan Union provided Uzbekistan with an access to the system of preferences GSP+, which allows duty-free export of 6,200 commodities. As a result, in 2022, the volume of exports from Uzbekistan to the European Union increased by 77.1 percent compared to 2021 and reached 845 million euros. A wide range of opportunities to expand and diversify the export of goods and services to the EU markets are available in Uzbekistan. In order for Uzbekistan entrepreneurs to develop export to the European Union, they must offer goods that meet European quality and safety sandards. There arises a need for studying the requirements for export to EU markets, identifying factors that hinder the expansion of exports, and developing scientifically sound proposals to eliminate existing problems.

In July 2022, the European Union and Uzbekistan concluded negotiations for an Enhanced Partnership and Cooperation Agreement. The agreement covers the issues related to trade, including customs administration, technical regulations, sanitary and phytosanitary measures, competition and the operation of state enterprises, public procurement, dispute resolution and other areas. This agreement opens up new opportunities for producers in Uzbekistan to further develop trade relations with the partners from EU countries. In this regard, the important task for exporting enterprises in Uzbekistan is to effectively use the available opportunities and further diversify the composition and geography of exports.

The purpose of the conference is to develop scientific and practical proposals and recommendations for expanding Uzbekistan’s trade and economic relations with the European Union countries.

The conference will be held in the following areas:

Session 1. The problems of increasing the competitiveness of Uzbekistan’s exports in the context of globalization.

Session 2. The opportunities and prospects for the development of trade relations between Uzbekistan and the European Union within the framework of the Enhanced Partnership and Cooperation Agreement (EPCA) and the special incentive arrangement for sustainable development and good governance (GSP+).

Sesson 3. The modern means of import policy of the European Union in relation to Uzbekistan. The organizational and legal aspects of the adaptation of export products made in Uzbekistan to EU standards.

Sesson 4. The directions for the development of transport and logistics system with an aim to expand exports from Uzbekistan to the European Union.

Sesson 5. The opportunities for the development of investment and technological cooperation with EU companies.

The languages of the conference: Uzbek, Russian, and English.
