On December 13, 2022, within the framework of the activities of the Tashkent Jean Monnet Center of Excellence for European studies, an international conference “New era of the Uzbekistan-EU relationship: economic, technological and environmental cooperation for ensuring sustainable development” was held at UWED.

Member of Advisory Council FERRMED Study Pierre Borgoltz, First Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan Jasur Jurabaev, Chief of Education at UNICEF Alberto Biancoli, Acting Director of Latvian Institute of International Affairs Kārlis Bukovskis, General Secretary of the European-Uzbek Association for Economic Cooperation (EUROUZ) Oybek Shaikhov, Head of the Erasmus Centre of Excellence in Sustainable Business and Finance Lyudmila Muradova, Vice-Rector for Science and Innovation of UWED, Head of TashCoE Gulnoza Ismailova, as well as the faculty of the International Economics and Management department, doctoral and bachelor students of UWED took part in the conference.

At the conference, the development of trade and economic cooperation between Uzbekistan and the EU; the possibility of expanding the Trans-Eurasian main railway transport network; implementation of the experience of European countries (Sweden, Germany) in attracting foreign direct investment in Uzbekistan; the importance of investing in innovation and technology, accelerating digitalization to improve the quality of education in Uzbekistan; building a green economy to mitigate the effects of climate change in Uzbekistan were discussed. In addition, the problems associated with the transportation of goods produced in Uzbekistan to the European market were identified, and measures were proposed to solve them.

At the end of the conference, the results of the discussion were summed up and promising areas of economic research cooperation of the Tashkent Jean Monnet Center of Excellence for European studies with European institutions and the business community were outlined.
