Best practices of presidential elections in the European Union, South Korea, Asia have been discussed at the international round table – Tashkent Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence for European studies

On the initiative of the International Law and Human Rights Department of Tashkent State University of Law in the framework of the project “Tashkent Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence for European Studies” an international scientific-practical round table on “Legal foundations of free and democratic elections: best practices of international standards in Europe and other foreign countries” has been conducted.

The representatives of the Ministry of Justice, the Higher School of Judges under the Higher Judicial Council, the Academy of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Academy of the Procurator-General’s Office, the Legal Policy Research Institute under the Ministry of Justice, the Academy of State Administration under the President of Uzbekistan, the University of World Economics and Diplomacy, the Centre for the Further Training of Legal Specialists under the Ministry of Justice, Tashkent Law College, and foreign experts attended during the international event.

Within the framework of the round table, issues of state policy of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the importance of ensuring the rule of law in the electoral legislation of Uzbekistan, international standards for free and democratic elections, standards and best practices for presidential elections in the European Union, South Korea, Asia, as well as a number of topical issues were discussed, such as cooperation and prospects for collaboration between the Republic of Uzbekistan and the European Union in ensuring civil and political rights.

At the end of the event, the participants made proposals and recommendations on measures to be taken to strengthen systemic reforms aimed at building a democratic rule of law and a strong civil society.
